London City Airport has selected Amadeus to deploy technology covering every stage of passenger services, from check-in to boarding. The airport aims to speed up the passenger journey, reduce queues and improve operational efficiency as it prepares to handle up to nine million passengers a year.
Amadeus self-service kiosks and automated baggage drop units will be available to all airlines operating at the airport. With the biometric infrastructure, passengers register their identity once for their entire journey, then check in and drop off baggage without repeating the process.
The structural driver is growing passenger volumes within a fixed terminal footprint. The upgrade is designed to let London City accommodate more passengers within its existing terminal through a seamless check-in and baggage drop-off process.
The airport has already moved to the cloud with the Amadeus Airport Cloud Use Service, now available throughout the terminal. It lets airlines run passenger service applications on shared airport infrastructure rather than fixed, airline-dedicated check-in counters, so staff can assist passengers from anywhere in the airport.
“Our collaboration with Amadeus, built on open and multicloud technology, enables us to transform our operations and the entire passenger journey, from check-in to boarding,” said Ian Cowie, Senior Director Airport Operations at London City Airport. “This allows us to further reduce queues, increase our capacity and improve efficiency.”
“By leveraging self-service, shared infrastructure and biometric technology, London City Airport can collaborate more effectively with its partners, better manage passenger flows and deliver a seamless end-to-end journey, from check-in to boarding,” said Georges Fenergi, Senior Vice President, Airports and Border Authorities, EMEA, at Amadeus.
London City Airport, based in London’s Royal Docks, is owned 75 per cent by Macquarie Asset Management, with Wren House Infrastructure remaining a shareholder, and handles around four million passengers a year.
Amadeus is a Madrid-based travel technology group listed on Spain’s IBEX 35 under the ticker AMS.MC. It reported group revenue of €6,517.0 million and EBITDA of €2,506.6 million in its 2025 results.
For the sector, the deal reflects airports using shared cloud infrastructure and biometrics to lift throughput, so passenger growth does not depend on adding terminal space.
