UK digital bank Monzo has officially launched in Ireland with free personal and business banking, 1.6% savings rates, and €100,000 (£85,000) deposit protection after unprecedented demand, according to a report by Dublin Live.

The arrival will be welcomed by the 100,000-strong waitlist, as the app has been Ireland's most downloaded Finance App for five weeks ahead of launch, enhancing customer experience through transparent fee structures, simplified banking communication, and accessible support channels

As the first digital bank to obtain full banking licence from the Central Bank of Ireland four months ago, all Monzo accounts benefit from protection of up to €100,000 through the Deposit Guarantee Scheme. The app will launch with free accounts for customers, including complimentary personal and business banking for all.

New research from Monzo revealed that only 19% of Irish customers report having strong confidence in Irish banks, whilst only 25% would recommend their current bank to friends or family. Monzo aims to address this trust deficit in the marketplace by guaranteeing zero hidden charges and offering strong fraud protection measures.

With only 13% of customers stating their bank consistently explains products in clear terms, and 42% believing they require a "translator" to understand banking terminology, products, and correspondence, Monzo avoids complicated terms and conditions, doesn't use technical language, and provides round-the-clock customer support.
