APCOA-operated Dublin Airport parking and transfer service Park2Travel has introduced a real-time passenger information system and five new shuttle buses as part of an investment of more than €2 million, designed to reduce travel-related stress and improve the transfer experience for passengers, according to E-commerce News.

The upgrade serves more than 25,000 passengers a week at Park2Travel's Dublin site, which operates a car park of more than 6,000 spaces with a 24-hour shuttle service running a 12-minute frequency during busy periods. The investment was directly shaped by customer feedback gathered since the facility opened, with requests for clearer information and smoother boarding informing the design decisions.

The real-time passenger information system, supplied by Journeo, allows passengers to scan QR codes at bus stops within the car park and at Terminal 1 to check when the next shuttle is due. On board, digital displays and automated audio announcements provide arrival updates for the terminal and car park, while stop announcements identify zones before passengers disembark.

The five new buses are built on Volvo B8RLE chassis with MCV Evora bodywork and feature a dual-door layout, wide middle doorway, low-entry flat floors and positioned luggage racks to reduce obstruction during boarding and exit. The design directly addresses the practical challenge of dwell times rising when passengers board with luggage, pushchairs or mobility needs.

Neil Cunningham, Managing Director of APCOA Ireland, said: "As we continue to grow, our focus is firmly on listening to our customers, embracing smart transit technology, and reducing travel-related stress or anxiety."

Cunningham added: "By introducing cutting-edge real-time tracking alongside these new buses, we are enabling passengers to track their journey and travel with greater confidence. Combined with live QR tracking and automated on-board countdowns, this investment ensures that our passenger journey is as smooth, modern, and digitally connected as possible."

The upgrade reflects a broader shift in parking operations toward digital services layered on top of physical infrastructure, as operators increasingly add live transport information, booking tools and accessibility improvements to sites once limited to storage and transfer functions.
