Dublin-founded AI company Fin, formerly known as Intercom, is to be acquired by US software giant Salesforce in a deal worth $3.6 billion (€3.1 billion), marking one of the largest acquisitions of an Irish-founded technology firm, according to ThinkBusiness.
Fin was founded in Dublin in 2011 by Des Traynor, Ciarán Lee, David Barrett and Eoghan McCabe at the 3fe coffee shop before establishing its headquarters in San Francisco to scale internationally. The company rebranded from Intercom to Fin earlier this year as it repositioned itself as an AI-first business centred on its flagship AI agent product.
Fin's core offering is an AI agent that resolves complex customer queries end-to-end across every channel, including live chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, phone and Slack. Its technologies are used by tens of thousands of organisations worldwide, including Amazon and Atlassian, to communicate with customers at scale.
Salesforce said Fin's AI agent technology will help organisations improve autonomous resolution, reduce cost-to-serve and accelerate AI adoption across their service operations. The acquisition directly strengthens Agentforce, Salesforce's platform for deploying autonomous, goal-driven AI agents across enterprise workflows.
Marc Benioff, Chair and Chief Executive of Salesforce, said: "Fin brings proven agent technology, a deep commitment to customer success, and an incredible AI team that will complement Agentforce with powerful service agent capabilities."
Benioff added: "Together, we'll help companies of every size seize this opportunity, accelerating time to value with trusted agents that deliver measurable outcomes at scale."
Eoghan McCabe, chief executive and co-founder of Fin, said: "This is a major win for consumers of the world. Our technology has defined this category and set the new standards for what great customer service looks like today."
McCabe added that joining Salesforce would allow the company to deploy it far and wide at a rate far faster than we could have ever achieved on our own.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
