Vodafone Business has introduced Device as a Service (DaaS) in Ireland, billed as the country’s first fully managed smartphone subscription for businesses. The service lets organisations subscribe to employee smartphones instead of buying them outright, replacing upfront costs with predictable monthly payments.
Available to businesses with 25 or more employees, Vodafone Business DaaS lets organisations lease smartphones, manage devices through a dedicated online platform and access repair and replacement services. Devices are refurbished or responsibly recycled at the end of their working life.
The structural driver is the administrative burden of owning devices, which includes upfront costs, time-consuming repairs, device tracking and end-of-life disposal. A subscription model gives businesses greater flexibility and a lighter administrative load.
“Smartphones are essential business tools, but managing them can be surprisingly complex and time-consuming,” said Jo Gilfoy, Vodafone Business Director. “Device as a Service brings all of these elements together in a single managed solution, giving businesses greater visibility and control while freeing up valuable time to focus on growth, productivity and serving customers.”
The service also responds to growing interest in extending device lifecycles. Research by Fraunhofer Austria estimated that 7.6 million unused smartphones are lying in Irish households, containing approximately €18.5 million of recyclable raw materials.
“We’re also seeing growing interest from businesses in extending the life of technology and reducing waste,” Gilfoy added. “By helping organisations manage devices more effectively throughout their lifecycle, DaaS supports both sustainability goals and smarter technology investment.”
Vodafone Ireland is part of Vodafone Group Plc, which is based in Berkshire, England, and trades on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker VOD. The group reported revenue of €40.5 billion and adjusted EBITDAaL of €11.4 billion in its FY26 results.
For the sector, the launch reflects telecoms providers moving from selling handsets to managing device lifecycles as a service, as Vodafone Ireland marks 25 years in the market.
