Irish telecoms firm Eir has reported steady customer growth in the first quarter, crediting a strategy of sustained network investment and customer focus with driving measurable improvements in connectivity experience across its mobile and broadband base, according to the Irish Examiner.

Total revenues for the quarter rose 1%, or €3 million, to €316 million, while EBITDA of €138 million remained stable year on year. The company's total fibre broadband base grew 2% to 898,000 customers, while postpay mobile customers increased to 1,317,000 growth the company attributes directly to improvements in service quality and customer experience delivery.

The results come as Eir continues to roll out its fibre-to-the-home and 5G infrastructure as part of a €2 billion capital investment programme, with the company passing 1.5 million homes and businesses with its fibre network during the quarter. Increased multi-play bundling among fixed households points to deepening customer engagement across Eir's product portfolio.

Chief executive Oliver Loomes said: "Our strategy of sustained network investment and customer focus continues to yield results, reflected in the growth of both our mobile and fibre broadband bases."

Loomes added that with 1.6 million mobile customers and just under 900,000 on its fibre network, the company is "consolidating our position as Ireland's leading connectivity provider."

Chief financial officer Stephen Tighe said first-quarter performance was in line with expectations, pointing to further increases in multi-play bundling as evidence of strengthening customer relationships across fixed households.

Tighe added: "Both our fibre rollout and our 5G networks continue to expand at pace."

The sustained investment in next-generation infrastructure positions Eir to meet rising customer expectations for faster, more reliable connectivity as demand for seamless digital experiences continues to grow across Irish homes and businesses.
