Dublin-founded tech unicorn Intercom has rebranded as Fin, taking the name of its AI customer service agent as the company completes its transformation into an AI-first business, according to the Business Post.
Chief executive Eoghan McCabe confirmed the Intercom name will continue as the designation for its customer service software platform, while Fin becomes the primary brand as the company expands beyond support into sales and commerce.
Founded in 2011 by McCabe, Des Traynor, Ciarán Lee and David Barrett, the company pioneered a messaging platform spanning sales, marketing and customer support before pivoting aggressively toward generative AI. Fin was launched in March 2023, built on GPT-4, just four months after OpenAI released ChatGPT. More recent versions have been powered by Anthropic's Claude.
The company is expected to launch a new product known as Operator imminently, having already announced an expansion into ecommerce and a sales-based solution in recent weeks.
McCabe said: "Fin is clearly our future, and the future of this new customer agent category. It's driving our renaissance and is about to be the largest part of our business."
The rebrand follows a period of significant financial momentum. In February, Intercom surpassed $400 million (€344 million) in annual recurring revenue, with Fin approaching the $100 million milestone. The company subsequently raised $250 million (€215.85 million) in debt financing and announced plans to hire 650 people globally this year.
Intercom posted record revenues of $283.3 million (€246 million) in 2024, up from $262 million (€226.3 million) the prior year, according to accounts filed in Dublin.
